We source our fantastic homegrown Douglas Fir from a responsibly managed Sussex estate just a few miles away, meaning the carbon footprint of this timber is incredibly low! Excellent value for money, Douglas Fir is one of our strongest homegrown softwoods – ideal for frames and beams, cladding, joinery and landscaping. It is naturally durable and as well as a plethora of external uses, it is perfect for flooring or furniture work.
Douglas Fir has a mellow, soft golden to light reddish-brown colour, with a prominent grain pattern and figure. It is a sustainable, hard and heavy softwood and a valuable commercial timber.
The logs are generally larger in diameter than other native softwoods, so we can offer 300 x 300mm fresh sawn beams. Although it has a higher ratio of live knots compared to larch, its good durability, uses and strength characteristics make Douglas Fir an excellent all-rounder.
