Beautiful decking

All of our timber decking comes in a range of lengths and section sizes and is produced to your specific requirements. We offer a range of standard decking profiles for you to choose from, as well as the option to create bespoke profiles for our timber decking.

Take a look below for further information on our decking options.

Decking options

  • Air-dried 1-2 Grade European Oak (treated or untreated)

  • Composite Decking – an environmentally innovative composite material that combines the best qualities of plastic and engineered fibres

  • Other suitable timber species upon request (as available).

European Oak is an ideal choice for timber decking where sustainability, durability and beauty are a consideration. It needs no treatment, is tough (withstanding heavy foot traffic and exposure to the elements), has a long service life, and weathers to a lovely silvery-grey patina over time.

As a leading UK hardwood specialist, we source our own timber, as well as having state-of-the-art on-site facilities to machine and finish your decking boards. We are completely in charge of the entire production operation from the tree to the finished product. This enables us to provide the best quality products, via our successful tried and tested methods of production.

In addition to decking, WL West Timber create bespoke oak pergolas and outdoor furniture, while our sister company, PRO Fencing, can supply and fit fencing and gates.

Additional Information

  • All of our timber decking is expertly machined in-house. We can offer a wide range of profiles - smooth decking boards are the most popular option but we also offer a choice of grooved and reeded decking profiles.

  • Our standard profiles are designed to be fixed directly through the face with deck screws. Stainless steel screws should be used to avoid corrosion and staining. The screw length should be approximately 2.5 x the thickness of the deck boards.

Undercarriage materials are available to suit individual deck requirements.

Handrails can be supplied in a variety of sizes and designs with spindles to match.

Timber balustrading can be produced in a material complementary to the decking.

  • Oak Decking

Oak has a high tannin content. During the first few months after the decking has been installed, tannin will exude from the boards, resulting in streaks and stains where it comes in to contact with masonry or render. Tannin also corrodes ferrous metal, so it is therefore important to use stainless steel fixings.

The specific treatment and maintenance routine will depend on your preferences and local conditions. No treatment is necessary, however, some customers prefer may choose to apply a stain or an oil-based finish to enhance the wood’s colour and protect it from UV damage. These finishes can also help repel water and make maintenance easier.

  • Installation should be in accordance with the Timber Decking and Cladding guidelines, for more information please go to: www.tdca.org.uk

  • Decking will be delivered palletised ready to be assembled. We can arrange delivery to anywhere in the UK. Alternatively, you can collect your order from our site in Selham, West Sussex.

    • Where the deck is situated within 20 metres of a highway.

    • Where the deck platform is more than 300mm (1 ft) from the ground.

    • If the structure would affect the amenity value or privacy of neighbouring properties.

    • If the deck is attached to a listed building or situated in a conservation area or National Park.
