5 Fencing Trends Popular in 2022

When you think of a fence, you probably picture the standard larchlap fencing, which is hardly anything to get excited by. But, we are seeing an increase in people styling their fencing to create a feature in their gardens, and we have rounded up 5 of our favourite fence trends for 2022.

Horizontal/Contemporary/Slatted Fencing

Traditionally, fencing would be in uniform vertical planks but we are seeing an increase in homeowners taking a step in a different direction (pun intended) and opting for a contemporary horizontal fence.

The minimalist crisp lines of a horizontal fence will transform a back garden into an artistic and tranquil haven. To elevate your outdoor space even further, you could opt for a slatted horizontal fence for the ultimate calming atmosphere.

Trellis Panels

Adding trellis panels to your fencing will not only add a touch of elegance to your fence, but it will also allow plants to grow on your fencing. You can add a panel of trellis to the top of your fence for maximum privacy while still maintaining the decorative feature of trellis.

Trellis is incredibly versatile, it can also be used alongside traditional styles of fencing to allow plants to grow up your fence, this will create a tranquil and luscious surrounding. Alternatively, trellis on its own can also be a fantastic way to zone your back garden or create added privacy to an area such as a hot tub.

Use of lighting

Selecting the perfect style and colour of fence is great, but absolutely no use if you are not able to see it. Adding lighting to your fence can go beyond a string of fairy lights, why not add miniature spotlights to create Ibiza at home, or built in lanterns for a romantic atmosphere.

Lighting comes with the added benefit of security and allows you to enjoy your back garden longer into the evening. There is countless opportunities when it comes to garden lighting, and with numerous wired and solar options on the market you shouldn’t have any challenges in this simple trick to modernise and dramatise your garden.

Low maintenance fencing

Unprotected or cheap fencing will not stand the test of time. You can spend ages picking the perfect colour for your fence but it’s a pointless endeavour if your fence will look deteriorated after a few winters. For obvious reasons, a big trend for 2022 is low maintenance quality fencing.

Our PRO Fencing team only use top quality materials that are also low maintenance. Ensure your fence lasts even longer by staining and sealing your fence and regularly checking for damage.

Pergolas

A pergola is the perfect finishing touch to your outdoor space. They ooze sophistication and are so practical as almost any space can accommodate a pergola of some size. Like trellising, pergolas can also be used to define spaces within your back garden, and are particularly suited to zoning your outdoor living space creating a more cosy setting.

By installing a pergola you can also ensure added privacy to your back garden especially if you opt for climbing plants. And if you don’t want climbing plants but you do want a pop of colour, then why not consider hanging baskets from your pergola? The versatility of a pergola is unrivalled.
