Our first time using coated Thermo-Treated Meranti timber and we can confirm – it does not disappoint!

For this type of cladding project, there are various options we could use to ensure beautiful crisp results, however we decided to use thermo-treated Meranti timberĀ for the first time. And here’s why…

Thermo-treated meranti timber

Meranti has a straight-grain consistency and is produced in straight, long widths of timber – perfect for use in cladding. Pre thermo-treatment, it is already a stable and durable wood and (similar to Teak) is resistant to moisture decay, insects and fungus. This makes it a great choice for this type of project, regardless of thermo-treatment. However, thermo-treatment is the way ahead for British hardwoods and the treatment provided improved stability and minimal movement, ensuring this cladding work will not move an inch for years to come. We predict the service life on this timber cladding to be over 50 years based on the durability Class 2.

Another very important reason we decided to thermo-treat the Meranti timber was to increase it’s fire resistance. This is a necessity when exploring options for timber cladding from a health and safety perspective.

Finally, Meranti timber is easy to machine due to it’s natural form, leaving crisp arris edges for an aesthetically-pleasing finish. It also paints very well, as can be seen in our project ‘after’ images. If you’re considering usingĀ thermo-treated meranti timberĀ in an upcoming project, it’s worth noting that we can offer it in a variety of surface finishes.
