Aussie Burrs available - NOW!!!!

AUSTRALIAN TIMBERS. Those of you that have enjoyed the beauty of the Australian Burrs that you bought in our shop last year, will be pleased to know that we have a new delivery imminent.

After struggling to find a supplier early in 2007, we are now developing a good relationship with a supplier direct from the source. Around 1.5 tonnes in total, the delivery will be made up of a mixture of Burrs, Bowl Blanks and Pen blanks. Species vary but include Red and Brown Mallee, Coolibah, Jarrah, Silky Oak, Camphor Laurel and White Top.

Bringing stock around the world is not always as simple as it seems, and the whole process of request, offer and confirmation takes around 3 months. Australia also has quality and availability problems, so we are not always able to buy exactly what we would like of the list. But our supplier is an expert, and he will offer us species that he thinks will be popular with our customers. We should have this stock on the shelf by mid-February, so pop in and have a look at what is available — remember, with this stock, it is very much—FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED!! There will be a list of what has been delivered on the Smaller User page of our web site.

Boxwood & Pearwood - but in small quantities

We have also recently bought some Boxwood and Pearwood from France. These are available now and have been selected by our own buyers in France.

€uro - downward spiral?

Price rises for a few months now, and sadly this month is no exception. The last two months has seen a drop of the Euro by €0.07/£. This may seem a small amount, but multiply that by the volume of timber you are all buying, and it comes to a considerable amount. This will therefore impact on the buying price of timber, especially that which is sourced from Europe.

You cannot have failed to miss the fuel increases at the pumps, this compounded with the €uro changes means that there will be changes to delivery costs. We have recently seen many companies in various fields apply ‘Fuel Surcharges’.

It is therefore important that you bear in mind these rises when quoting forward.

Oak excellence

We have recently bought some Export Grade European through & through Oak in 54 & 65mm. This has been carefully selected by our own buyers.

This is superb quality Oak and is ideal for the very best joinery work and high class furniture projects. Please call our trade sales team to discuss this great product.

You may not realise this, but we do inspect every single board of through & through timber we buy. Each board is inspected, measured, tagged and recorded. Any that does not meet our standards is rejected. As you can imagine, when our team is away in France for a week they measure approximately 180 –200 m³ in 4 or more sawmills, travelling across a wide part of Eastern France, a lot of work and travelling.

We are now tending to visit more sawmillers in France to ensure we try to maintain a high quality level.
